Tragic is the exact word for this story about the death of Mikey Welsh--formerly of the band Weezer. Mikey Welsh died last Saturday of unknown causes. Since the artist was only 40 years old at the time of his death, many fans, friends, and family of Mikey Welsh were shocked by his untimely and all-too-early death, which may have been a suicide.
Mikey Welsh actually predicted the time of his death in a dream which he wrote about on Twitter. His Tweet said: "dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today." He then added a second note: "correction – the weekend after next."
Is Mikey Welsh’s death a freaky example of ESP? Was Mikey Welsh actually psychic? Did his dreams predict his own death?
Maybe not so much.
As People magazine reports, the former Weezer member was found dead with a bag of heroin in his vicinity. The unknown causes may not be all that unknown; he likely died from a drug overdose. And, given the fact that he wrote about his death beforehand coupled with the fact that his drug overdose could have been intentional and not so accidental, I think it’s highly possible that Mikey Welsh’s Tweet was in reality a suicide note (or warning) written in a way to cause intrigue and to create a more mysterious atmosphere around his death.
What do you think? Was Mikey Welsh really that creative in his Tweet? Did he really predict his own death? Or did he announce his intentions before he actually died? However you look at, his death by possible suicide is a tragic loss to the world. It’s amazingly sad that someone so talented with so much life left ahead of him died this way. He left behind two children who will have to live with this forever.
According to the Daily Mail, there was also foreshadowing of Mikey Welsh’s death on his Facebook page; the musician turned artist was also predicting that his art would become more valuable after his death. The foreshadowing was likely to show that he was suicidal; often talk of death is a cry for help, as well as a warning to those around that someone is severely depressed.
If someone had recognized that he was serious in his statements on Twitter and Facebook, MIke Welsh’s death might have been prevented.
