I first became acquainted with former NFL punter Gregory Montgomery, Jr. on Facebook—you might be surprised to learn that I don’t usually have contact with former NFL players—when we both joined some Facebook support groups for people with Bipolar Disorder. I was immediately impressed with Greg’s courage to share his story in order to help others and was intrigued to find out more about him.
Most of the stories I hear about celebrities with Bipolar Disorder involve actors or others whose careers fit the stereotypes that many people have about Bipolar Disorder. While I do believe that there is definitely an artistic element that goes along with Bipolar Disorder, I think it’s important for the public to know that Bipolar Disorder can strike people from all walks of life, which is why the Gregory Montgomery, Jr. story is so important.
I hope you take the time to watch the following embedded video about Gregory Montgomery, Jr. whether you are a football fan or someone who also has Bipolar Disorder—it’s well worth watching and shows the highs and lows of a true survivor of Bipolar Disorder.
